K K Jin Yan Zhao, 2000

(London, UK / Toronto, Canada / Beijing, China )

KK Jin Yan Zhao (b. 2000) is a Chinese-Canadian artist based in London. Her practice begins with imagining things otherwise. Through acts of transformation, association, and projection, she explores moments when familiar forms slip from recognition and enter new states of becoming. Approaching her work through the lens of curating, she treats exhibition making as a methodology for investigating perception, sensation, and spatial experience. KK is drawn to the “supporting structures” within systems, elements that often remain unnoticed, peripheral, or unspoken. Through collecting, observing, listening, and sensing, she creates temporary installations and site-responsive performances that bring these latent conditions into focus. For KK, the present is not merely a point in time but an existential condition, an active site where emotion, matter, and space co-produce experience.

Currently based in London, KK is an MFA candidate at Goldsmiths, University of London. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Visual Studies Studio Practice from the John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape and Design at the University of Toronto. She is the founder and curator of “#everysixteenminutesapiecetogetherpoem”, an Annual Digital intervention project. Her works have been exhibited at Hypha Studios, Safe House, and All is Joy Studio, as well as internationally in Toronto and Beijing.
