赵金琰 Jinyan Zhao, 2000
(Toronto, Canada / London, UK)
Jinyan Zhao (b. 2000) engages with the instability of perception and the immediacy of sensation. Her practice moves through the minute and subtle, where feeling, touch, and perspective intertwine to construct spatial atmospheres that are both fragile and immersive. For her, the present moment is not a temporal point but an existential condition, an active site where emotion, matter, and space co-produce experience.
Across poetry, painting, photography, spatial installation, and performance, Jinyan explores how the unspoken can articulate itself through form, gesture and rhythm. The “micro-emotional” becomes a structural force in her work, small intensities capable of transforming the entire field of experience. Her installations often unfold as perceptual experiments where spaces shift in relation to the viewer’s steps. By reshaping narratives through every corner of space, she examines how subtle interventions can reconfigure our embodied perception of the everyday.
Currently based in London, Jinyan is an MFA candidate at Goldsmiths, University of London. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Visual Studies Studio Practice from the John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape and Design at the University of Toronto. Her work has been recently exhibited at Safe House, Hypha Studio, and All is Joy Studio, as well as internationally in Toronto and Beijing.
