赵金琰 Jinyan Zhao, 2000
(Toronto, Canada / London, UK)
Jinyan Zhao (b. 2000) works with unsettled moments, sometimes seeking one, sometimes breaking the other. She is not stable, and that is precisely the point. Instability becomes her method, a tool to fracture expectations, to find rhythm inside noise, to make meaning where it’s not supposed to be. Her work is about the immediacy of sensation, the raw, the felt, the “now” before it’s named. She gives form to what usually slips by: unnoticed micro-emotions. She brings the unspoken into spoken, enlarges the abstract mundane through poetry, photography, spatial intervention, and performance. She unsettles things, lets them shift, breathe, confront. It’s all about Now and Feel. Feel and Love.
Currently based in London, Jinyan is currently an MFA candidate at Goldsmiths, University of London. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Visual Studies Studio Practice from the John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape and Design at the University of Toronto. Her work has been exhibited internationally, with shows in Beijing, Toronto, and London.
